Egg Bowl Black

The palm-sized, egg-shaped bowl is also a long running series of monohanako. You can use them for pickles, seasonings, nuts, or olives. At home we use this bowl to make a savory steamed egg dish called chawanmushi.

The color black gives a masculine and stoic impression, and feels profound at the table. But the metallic texture of this black also lends it a lighter and modern feel. Since it is black, it won’t stain easily. Black dishes are polished through regular use and take on a soft sheen over time.
